Not a bad place if you are looking for relatively inexpensive sushi for a quick lunch. They have a $7.95 lunch special of two sushi rolls and miso soup. Worth the trip in my opinion. Sushi was fresh and Miso was hot.

Great place for quick and cheap takeout. I ordered lunch for two and it came within 30 minutes. Three rolls + your choice of miso soup, salad, or soda is only $9.50. If you want one less roll, it's $7.50. The selection of rolls for the lunch special is really big - you pretty much get your choice of every regular roll they offer. Their party trays are also super cheap. You can get 74 pieces (all rolls) for just $34.50 We got a party tray for a friend's apartment warming party and it was all pretty fresh. Everyone quickly gobbled it all up. It's not the best sushi I've ever had but for the price in the area, it's one of the best.

The makis and the sashimi were good and fresh, and the seafood should was huge and tasty. The restaurant is very small, but we could find a table for four as soon as we arrived.

I have been here a few times, ate in and for delivery. Came here again today and saw something black on my salad. I picked it up with my napkin and squeezed it. There was red stuff coming out (blood) It was a bug!! So gross. I completely lost my appetite. I told the server, and she just took away the salad and bought out a new sushi roll and new bowl of rice. Never coming back again!

Nothing to write home about. Slightly below market prices for meh food. Good for sushi on a budget, but honestly, save your money, get a dollar slice nearby, and then splurge some other day.

I had intended to eat elsewhere on 9th Avenue but the places I wanted to go to were not opened for lunch. However, i passed hanami and they had a lunch special from 11-4P and I went in. The waitress was attentive and I ended up having miso soup and getting three rolls-My food came quickly and was very good. It was reasonably priced and i would return.

ive been to hanami twice in the last two months ... one time we tried the sushi buffet and the second time we just ordered off of the a la carte menu. because the prices arent that high, you have to eat quite a bit to get your money's worth on the buffet menu. food quality wise, i think it's better than supermarket sushi, but not blue ribbon quality. i personally thought it was pretty good. you definitely a good value here, and on a cold night, when this place is close by, it's a nice option - udon noodles and oyako don will warm you up right away! the restaurant isnt huge, but we always seem to be able to get a table no problem. i think they get more orders for delivery ...

Ate here only once I had take out thou, It's nothing overwhelming but it's decent and enough to satisfy ur sushi cravings, extensive menu, friendly people ... I had a good experience overall...

The cheap beer and low prices couldn't really overcome the less than stellar service and food for me. My girlfriend and I noticed the $2.50 beer and sake special and walked in. There was one other person in there which should have been a sign. The waiter was attentive at first but once we got out food he sat in the back on his cell phone. I had to call to get his attention to get another beer and also to get the check. We had a shumai appetizer which was ok, pretty typical for a cheap sushi place. I had the chicken katsu curry which was disappointing. The crust wasn't very thick or crunchy and the curry sauce didn't have much real flavor at all. The curry was very thing and had a couple pieces of carrot, it had a strong vinegar taste. My girlfriend went with the shrimp tempura. That was actually quite good, the shrimp were large and well cooked and I was a bit jealous of her little setup. If its still early there are a ton of other restaurants around the area with a good happy hour and better food. But if you find yourself looking for somewhere with cheap drinks after 8 there aren't that many choices. I doubt I'll come back but I wouldn't be completely against the idea, i would probably just stick to tempura next time.

Worst service possible. I was excited to order the beef negimaki until it came out. I tried one and had to speak to the waiter about returning it. He agreed to take it off the bill and he still charged it. The beef was tough as a piece leather both visually and viscerally. I was unable to eat it and didn't even touch the rest of my meal. I was trying to have a discussion about the bill and he was argumentative. Never coming back.

The food is not bad, but the sashimi is not very fresh due to my opinion. The price is really cheap, and the place is quite crowd.

I ordered their sushi lunch special and thought I was getting a deal. I ordered the spicy salmon and the philadelphia and my oh my, I didn't want to finish either in fear that I'd get some odd disease. The sushi tastes off and hardly reminded me of what it was supposed to be. It must be a lower grade or .... something else, maybe compost? Regardless, the sushi here ain't right. Don't be swayed by the deal. Good sushi is always expensive.

Terrible sushi- was NOT fresh at all my boyfriend and I came here for lunch because we were craving sushi. I go to college near here so decided to give it a try. He got the salmon roll and tuna tutaki and i got the 3 roll special california, spicy crunch tuna and the shrimp tempora and shrimp shumi. The sushi was so sloppy and mushy tasting. they should be ashamed they served this !

    (1)
  • Sandra Y.

Got food poisoning from the rolls (either white tuna, spicy salmon, or smoked salmon). Vomiting for 3 days and hives for 1 week. Same for the friend that was with me.

I haven't been eating sushi for that long, but this sushi was bad. I couldn't even finish my second roll it was so awful. I would never recommend this place.

AYCE for under $29 includes but not limited to sushi, nigiris, bento box, combos, curry rice plates, udon, ramen, soda and house sake. Too bad they don't include sashimi in their AYCE menu. The sushi was ok, but I've had better. Anyways, I like how they don't pack a lot of rice into their maki rolls. My friends said their curry rice plates were not up to par. One even said it tasted sour-like and not curry-like. My hunch is that it was made from an instant package. I would just stay away from them and order sushi only. Otherwise, you would get full on the rice. A bottle of Kirin or Sapporo was only $2.50, so there were a lot of sake bombs going around the table. There's a 30% charge on whatever food is left over. Leaving some rice behind is a-ok. The service wasn't bad and I was surprised the waiter didn't get annoyed with us asking him for different things each time. We literally made him run back and forth.

I come here primarily for the 28.95 all you can eat sushi special. It only goes to 10pm I think. It is worth the deal and the sushi they serve is great in my book. With the special you have a separate menu they give you, which has tempura, maki, udon, curry pretty much more than I was expecting to see. You also get all you can drink house saki hot or cold, which is expectedly cheap saki (think box wine level). I've also come in for lunch and hardly broke a twenty for a box meal I also enjoyed. If you are an avid NYC restaurant goer who expect exceptional service and can't overlook minor shortcomings in quality you should skip over this place. But its a nice quiet place to eat sushi and get tipsy, leave full without breaking the bank.

  • Brianna P.

I've ordered from here twice in the last month or so and it's been pretty solid. This isn't the world's best sushi, but I think it's decent quality and price. Both times I've had an $8 discount from delivery.com , so it makes me feel like it's a better deal than most people seem to mention. Overall, not too bad for a quick fix to a sushi craving.

Saturday night all you can eat sushi & sake, decided to give this place shot. The result? A disaster. The rice underneath the salmon nigiri was warm, the shrimp nigiri was so awful we sent it back (to which they really pushed on why), and the sake was subpar at best. Staff wasn't particularly friendly or attentive, seemed like they were more focused on moving delivery orders than helping sit-down customers. Never coming back, and highly recommend people looking for decent AYCE to stay away. Also their rating is "pending", and that's always a little bit suspect.. Still on my quest to find a good AYCE sushi place in NYC.

Been coming here for more then a decade. Great hole in the wall sushi joint, with inexpensive sushi and beer. It's a mainstay of this neighborhood.

  • Carrie W.

I came here for a quiet dinner by myself. I practically had to beg for service. Once I got their attention they had an attitude like I was bothering them. The food was mediocre at best. I won't be coming back.

Very fast, very cheap! This place is the usual spot for me if I'm at school and craving sushi. The lunch specials make for awesome deals and even though the food arrives quick, you never feel like you've over stayed your welcome if you decide to hang around and chat.

This is a sushi restaurant that is not run by Japanese, so you know what to expect when you walk in. And I believe the management hand changed several times since when I got to know this place as their name changed several times although menu has not changed at all. Given that, I say this is a good take out place. For the price, you don't expect "fish to melt in my mouth" type of experience. I must agree that there is something a bit greasy about their food. Maybe their fryer too close to the rest of the kitchen? My recommendation: sushi is ok overall. If you expect replica of what comes out of Japanese kitchen, then it would be a bit different. I don't recommend noodle soup too much. They do ok job with cutlet. Donburi is fine, but again, don't expect the exactly same thing that comes out of Japanese kitchen. I don't necessarily recommend noodle soup and definitely not curry (although since the last time when I ordered it, it has been a while, so please keep that in mind). There is something sour about their curry sauce. Maybe they were not using enough curry powder or something. They just remodeled the place. Maybe this time, management is really trying to make the difference. Let's see.

This is a 3.5 star; I just feel like being a bit harsher at the moment. Mainly because dinner for 2 cost $50 and that realllly isn't as "cheap" as people are claiming here. (Note: not that I have a problem paying up for sushi but this ain't no Sushi of Gari if you catch my drift). I'd say Ajisai down the street is better for your everyday sushi. Maybe lunch is better.. at least pricing wise. In any case, I came here on a quiet Monday evening with my friend around 8pm. The place is really small- with 3-4 seats at the bar and 3-4 tables. We saw a lot of people come and go for take out. Food: We started off with edamame which was you know. edamame. My friend then ordered sashimi b- $20 which was pretty filling (it's 16 pieces). I'm not sure what he thought of the taste but just said that he had trouble finishing it- he didn't really comment on it. I ordered two special rolls- both of which were really, really delicious and pretty much fronting all 3 stars: the Hanami Roll-Eight pieces of spicy yellowtail, crunchy, avocado, topped with yellowtail jalapeno. This was really heavy actually and somehow my eyes came before my stomach, and I didn't think 8 pieces would be enough food. WRONG. This is a lot of mayo and a lot of fish.. plus avocado.. very good though. $14. The second special roll was the White Dragon Roll-Eight pieces. White tuna, mango, avocado, topped with white tuna and jalapeno. This was also very good and not as heavy because it's not made with spicy mayo. I'd go for this again just because it's lighter. All in all, while I thought the sushi rolls were tasty and filling, I would have to give 3 stars due to the cramped space and high ish prices. I think these are rolls you can get anywhere... If I had to do a re do (which I probably will as I work around the corner), I would get an appetizer and ONE roll.

I've only ordered sushi to go here. It always feels a little greasy, although how sushi can feel greasy, I can't really explain. I won't dine in - the place is a closet. The order online feature is convenient and they've never f-ed up my order.

    (2)
  • Jeremy T.

Terrible. Seriously, I'm not a sushi snob or anything, but I've had better sushi in an airport. And for anyone saying "yeah, but it's cheap" - so what? I wouldn't eat this for FREE.

  • Riki G.

Above average sushi, really good prices. $2.50 bottles of house sake. Can't really complain about that. Atmosphere, ambiance, etc. is lacking, but if you are on a budget and/or trying to get drunk, this is a good spot.

    (4)
  • Megan P.

The only reason this place has one star is because the food is decent (but not worth it at all). Other than that, the customer service is HORRIBLE. They keep their seafood way too close to their veggies so VEGETARIANS BEWARE and they don't care about separating or cooking seafood separate from the veggies so also be careful if you have allergies. And if anything is wrong the customer is always wrong. The hostess/waitress needs some lessons in customer service. I can deal with a rude employee if the food is incredible but here it is just edible. The tip I left in the jar better go to the one making the rolls. I can see he was at least trying to work with what little they gave him.

    (1)
  • Stephen H.

Gross!!! Worst sushi ever! Topped with bad service! Got the all you can eat deal which includes all you can drink sake for $28.95. Everything lacked flavor and tasted like plain rice... Sake kinda burnt (not temperature wise but like rubbing alcohol cleaning a wound)... Avoid!!!

    (1)
  • Josh W.

The food here is decent. They have good lunch specials where you can get 8 pieces of sushi and a roll for about $10. The fish isn't the freshest, and the portions aren't particularly big, but it's not a bad place to go. They do have an AYCE option which I have never tried, though it doesn't seem like that great of a deal

We live around the corner and this is our go-to Sushi place for delivery. We order the Sushi platter as a dinner for 2 and it's always excellent. Quality ingredients, tasty, and well made. The delivery is quick as well.

  • May L.

Well, I can't say this place is the best sushi. It's the cheapest I've ever seen and it's consistent. The turn over is significant which keeps the fish fresh relative to other hole in the wall places. Service is really quite good. The place is uber tiny, but the waitstaff appears to understand the concept of turnover. You get your food fairly quickly upon arrival. My experience has been that delivery is the same. I definitely recommend this spot for a fast lunch. If you're with a bunch of broke people who like sushi, this place works as well. If you're looking for the highest quality, best creative sushi, then this is not your spot.

  • Marie Y.

There was hair in my foods. So disgusting. And I ordered curry but this curry was old so of cause I asked to change but they never apologized. The delivery man was so bad attitude. I will never order from here and never go to this restaurant. Just wanna say so HORRIBLE. This store is the worst restaurant I've ever seen.

Love this place. Been coming here for the occasional lunch or dinner for years. Delicious food, excellent service and a great deal. I am a vegetarian and love their AAC roll and miso soup as well as their tomago. Great for a causal sushi moment!

  • Ken P.

I went here for dinner on Friday night. The prices here are very reasonable for sushi, but the food was just OK. We spent $50 for two people with 30 pieces of sushi and ramen. I highly recommend you do NOT eat the ramen. I hear they have an all you can eat and drink deal, which is pretty good but I did not do that. I reommend it if you want cheap, casual sushi.

    (3)
  • Tiffany S.

So surprised this place doesn't have more reviews? It's all you can eat sushi, sake and soda for $28.95! Choice of regular or hot saki. No sashimi and beer though. The quality of the sushi is actually good.. Lots of rice in the rolls though, but what do ya expect? Not only sushi but udon, tempura, katsu, curry and so much more are unlimited too! 30% extra charge if there's extra food leftover. And I can't recall the exact time the special begins but I think it's only until 10pm. Service was nice.. It is a tiiiiny place though. I think only like 16 seats total? Overall an awesome bargain!

    (4)
  • Ali C.

I can't stay away from a cheap sushi lunch deal! 2 rolls + soup/salad for under $9, make it 3 rolls for a few $ more. Also, it seems like there's new management, maybe? Things seem to be getting better.

WORSE CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!!! My company orders from this place all the time not because the food is great but because they deliver fast and the price for the portion is reasonable. But they sure lost a frequent customer (by frequent I mean several times a week). I placed an order through seamless.com for me and two other coworkers. The order came and my coworker picked up the order. The delivery guy (beware of the taller thin Asian guy in his late 40s) handed the receipt to my coworker and waited for my coworker to pay. Without thinking twice, she paid him $31 plus a $5 tip and he left. Afterwards I told my coworkers what they owe me and that was when we realized we double paid. I called the restaurant, asked for the manager (his name is Benson) and of course it was a waste of time. Without accusing anyone I told them there must be a confusion when I placed the order. Before he even attempted to look into the matter he already told me there was nothing he could do. I insisted he ask his delivery guy (described which one of the three he was) if he had collected cash and you hear him effortlessly say something in the background for a few seconds and told me no one collected cash. You would think if he was wise he would make good with me considering our loyalty to this place for approx 2 years. I'm not even asking for cash back! All I asked for was a $35 credit towards future order. This so called manager said he cannot do anything for us and he's not willing to lose $35 for something that's not his problem. My coworkers also called and he hung up on them. Really? You're going to fight me for $35 over thousands of dollars worth of business??? I knew then it was just a waste of time. Luckily Seamless was super helpful. The rep also tried calling for the manager but he was told that the manager was not there. In any case, seamless refunded me instantly. Oh well, never again Hanami.

The chicken katsu curry was my reason for going, and I was very pleased with the results--best I've had outside of Hawaii, and reasonably priced. I look forward to working my way around their sushi menu, as well, but have a feeling I'll get the chicken katsu curry most of the time. Also, the space itself is nice and surprisingly peaceful for a restaurant right on 9th Avenue.

This place is the WORST. A friend and I went here after having gone to the gym at planet fitness around the corner. We ordered all brown rice rolls but received white rice rolls because they claimed they "forgot". They were going to make it all over again but we were starving, didn't have time to spare and felt bad wasting the food. So we kept the white rice. THEN we realized one of each of our rolls weren't even what we ordered. NEVER COME HERE!

Good place for takeout. I go here mostly because of proximity to my place, but I'd probably go further if I had to. Place is tiny and has kind of a strange empty feel to it so I probably wouldn't eat in.

  • Julie H.

I ordered a lunch special that came with 2 sets of rolls and a salad. I had a soup or salad choice and I picked salad because I'm watching what I eat. It was great sushi and a good price for a lunch. I had delivery so I have no idea what's going on in the physical restaurant. Delivery was fast and courteous.

I order from Hanami Sushi with my coworkers from time to time. Delivery is pretty good, even in the rain. My co workers got me hooked on the Beef Udon soup noodle! It's delicious. I visited this place one time for lunch and i prefer to stick with delivery. The restaurant itself was pretty small and cramped making my office desk a lot more comfortable to eat at ( i have a spacious work space). I definitely recommend the udon!

Came here on a Saturday night around 8pm. Empty. Got the buffet menu which was extensive. Service was terrible. No hello from the waitress but she came around. Food was as expected for 28.95 but it was AYCE. Can't beat that. Menu was 5-6 pages ranging from salads to tempura to maki to sushi and UN limited sake. Will definitely be back

  • Jeff B.

Horrible! I'm from Texas and this is the worst sushi I've ever eaten (well we left half on the plate). Service was horrid as well. Rice warm, fish not fresh and beer was warm! Not a recommendation!

came here on a saturday night because new ashiya messed up on our reservation for 8:30 and this place was good enough to take our group of 12 ppl in. we basically filled up the whole place and we definitely got our money's worth. lets just say you definitely wont make it out sober. the people there are so nice too and they are not cheap with refilling your sake. all i remember is we kept getting refills even without having to ask for it. our bill was around 500ish. will definitely come back here! oh, this place has only sushi and sake and sode. no unlimited sashimi or beer but thats fine with me. and make sure u finish your food because they do keep reminding you that you have to finish it or be charged.

do not order delivery from here. the delivery guy literally cornered me in my office to make me change his tip to 20%. and this happened more than one occasion. rude. unprofessional. definitely doesn't deserve even a dime for tip. food is good. both portion and taste. JUST DON'T ORDER DELIVERY. (if i were the owner of this place, i would seriously consider finding a new delivery boy..save your business)

    (2)
  • Christen M.

I gave Hanami another try, and -- accepting that all you get with the sashimi entree is sashimi -- decided that it's not bad. The fish tastes fresh and it was still a decent size plate for the price. The delivery is also fast for the area. Maybe worth 3 1/2 stars.

    (3)
  • A P.

The sushi was not bad but the delivery service was horrible. I was told a certain amount over the phone but told it was more when they got here. The tip still exceeded the bill amount even after the changes. The delivery man screamed at me because tip was not enough. Was not content at all

  • Emily Y.

Small cozy sushi shop to have a nice but not too fancy sushi lunch. There are many combinations of sushi and rolls you can choose from for the lunch specials which is either 2 rolls or 3 rolls from the list. On the bottom of the list are some sushi combinations. The service is nice. There is one waiter and one chef I think. they play Chinese music in the back ground, but no one can really tell. Its a small mom and pop shop type. Honestly I come here because it is 2 min from my work and on my thirty sometimes I just want sushi. Luckily this does the trick! For me it is just enough to satisfy that craving just enough to quench the thirst and then not so great that I actually want more. I will probably try their hot dishes later on too. I enjoyed my salmon and tuna sushi combination but not really the first choice one. Will probably stick to salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and spicy tuna here. Overall good lunch spot if your around the area or looking for cheap sushi. Would be a place I would go for dinner though. Enjoy!

Been here three times for dinner and ordered special rolls - all really delicious, especially the one they lightly fry! Price reasonable compared to some of the other japanese places in area

    (4)
  • Ny'ker S.

Be afraid. They keep their raw fish in plastic bags in the sushi case. That means they're not busy enough to take them out of the bags and it's likely not on high rotation or fresh. I stayed on the side of caution and did not eat anything raw. I had a crunchy California Roll and a Kani Salad. Outcome was nothing special. Go elsewhere or eat hot food

The worst bowl of chirashi I've had in a while. Mostly rice and then 9 pieces of rubbery fish plus pickled radish and seaweed salad. Not worth the $14.

I can't say enough great things about this restaurant. We recently had a birthday party here for my father. They did such an amazing job. They hosted a party for 40 people. It was done so professionally and the food was dynamite. The Chinese and Japanese food is equally fresh and delicious. I definitely recommend this place for a casual dinner or for a private party. Absolutely phenomenal!!

    (5)
  • Trina R.

Is it the most amazing sushi? No. Is it decent? Yes. Is the restaurant small? Yes. Is it good for a big group? No. Is it good if you want to stuff your face with decent japanese food and sake all night? Absolutely. The only reason to pick this sushi restaurant over others in HK is if you want to go in there, eat your face off and drink a crap load of sake that will most likely give you a hangover in the morning. Done.

    (3)
  • Preston W.

This is actually the worst sushi I've ever eaten. It tasted like the fish had been sitting out for weeks. I asked the manager for a refund, as we didn't eat three of our four rolls, and he said no. Oh and there were gnats EVERYWHERE. My biggest regret is leaving a 10% tip at the end of the meal.

  • Rebecca A.

I used to order from here fairly frequently as it was cheap and hit the spot. However after both my boyfriend I had major stomache aches (amen to the pepto gods) from dinner last night there is no way in hell I'm ordering from here. We had two different maki convos and miso soup. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!
